The Tribune writes:<\/p>\n<p><em>The swap and exchange service went into full business swing &#8230;setting up files that will help match left and right gloves <\/em><em>and shoes for persons throughout the country.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gloves? Wow.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\" async=\"\"><\/script><br \/>\n <!-- 1943 exchange --><br \/>\n <ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-5212447425591278\" data-ad-slot=\"6469982745\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\/\/ <![CDATA[\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The Tribune\u00a0then explains:<\/p>\n<p><em>The exchange is not a mail order service of actual goods. Rather, it is matching the names of users of the same sizes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is not far from\u00a0what Odd Shoe Finder does over 70 years later. Of course we now have the internet. Like <a href=\"https:\/\/oddshoefinder.com\">Odd Shoe Finder<\/a>, the exchange had no fees (like us) and people who completed the\u00a0exchange did so between themselves. Like Odd Shoe Finder, the exchange didn&#8217;t actually buy, sell or even stock shoes itself.<\/p>\n<p>It was considered <em>&#8220;considerate&#8221; for a person to send along a stamp for his reply to an inquiry.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Although, we&#8217;re not sure\u00a0there&#8217;s really a market for odd gloves\u00a0nowadays, it would seem that no matter how much things change, they also seem to remain the same.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A\u00a0shoe exchange for amputees is\u00a0not a new \u00a0idea as this article from the July 6th 1943 edition of the Chicago Tribune shows.
